The Nikon Z8 is a full-frame mirrorless camera built around a 45.7MP stacked CMOS sensor paired with Nikon's EXPEED 7 processing engine. It shoots at up to 20 fps in raw at full resolution, tracks subjects across 493 phase-detection points, and records 8K video internally, all from a body that weighs 2.0 pounds with a battery and card loaded. Among the digital mirrorless cameras we carry, the Z8 is one of the bodies photographers reach for when one camera has to cover stills and video across very different assignments.
The stacked sensor design pulls data off the chip quickly, and that readout speed is what lets the Z8 run a fully electronic shutter with speeds from 1/32000 to 30 seconds and silent operation when the room calls for it. Native sensitivity spans ISO 64 to 25600, with base ISO 64 giving landscape, architecture, and studio shooters the cleanest files the sensor produces. The camera uses the Nikon Z lens mount, so it sits at the center of the Nikon Z system alongside the company's wide primes, fast portrait glass, and telephoto zooms.
Here is what the Z8 brings to a working kit, drawn from Nikon's published specifications for the body.
The autofocus system spreads 493 phase-detection points across the frame and offers single-servo, continuous-servo, and manual focus. With the electronic shutter engaged, the Z8 sustains up to 20 fps at the full 45.7MP resolution for as long as 1000 raw frames, which is enough runway to hold a burst through an entire play or a bird's full takeoff sequence.
The Z8 records 8K internally, including N-RAW capture at up to 60p, along with 4K at frame rates up to 120 fps for slow motion. Internal 10-bit recording gives editors and colorists real latitude in the grade, and the stabilization that steadies stills smooths handheld movement in video the same way. Pair the body with fast glass from our lenses and accessories selection and the Z8 covers documentary, commercial, and event video from one setup.
Magnesium alloy and carbon fiber make up the body, which measures 144 x 118.5 x 83 mm and weighs 910 g with a battery and card installed. Two card slots sit on board, one for CFexpress Type B and one for SD in SDHC and SDXC formats, so you can run overflow capacity or duplicate recording depending on the job. High-resolution raw files and 8K clips fill cards quickly, and our memory and storage selection covers both formats. Power comes from a single EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion pack rated for approximately 340 shots.
Wildlife and sports photographers use the Z8 for the combination of resolution and burst depth. Twenty frames per second at 45.7MP means a heavily cropped frame from a distant subject still holds enough detail for a full page print, and the 1000 frame raw buffer means the burst rarely ends before the action does.
Wedding and event photographers work the silent electronic shutter through ceremonies and speeches, then switch to video for the same coverage without changing bodies. Commercial and landscape shooters run the Z8 at base ISO 64 on tripods and heads for product, interior, and architectural work where file quality drives the whole deliverable. Hybrid creators who deliver stills and video from a single shoot get one menu system, one battery type, and one lens kit to learn.
A body this capable earns a kit built around it. Padded protection from our camera bags and pouches selection keeps the Z8 and a couple of Z mount lenses organized in transit. Spare batteries keep long shoot days moving, and a screen protector over the 3.2 inch touchscreen is worthwhile insurance on a camera that travels.
The Z8 has two card slots. One accepts CFexpress Type B media and the other takes SD cards in SDHC and SDXC formats. CFexpress Type B is the choice for 8K video and long raw bursts because of its sustained write speed, while SD handles stills and serves well as a duplicate destination.
The Z8 runs on a single EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery (7 VDC, 2280 mAh) rated at approximately 340 shots. Real world results shift with viewfinder use, image review, and temperature, so most working photographers carry two or three spares. Our batteries and power adapters selection covers extra packs and chargers.
Using the electronic shutter, the Z8 captures up to 20 fps at the full 45.7MP resolution for up to 1000 raw frames in a single burst. Shutter speeds range from 1/32000 to 30 seconds, which gives you room to freeze fast action in bright light and to work with long exposures at the other end of the scale.
Yes. The Z8 uses 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization, which moves the sensor itself to counter camera movement. It works alongside the optical stabilization built into many Nikon Z mount lenses, which keeps handheld shooting practical at slower shutter speeds and helps steady long telephoto framing.
The Z8 records 8K internally, including N-RAW at up to 60p, and 4K at frame rates up to 120 fps for slow motion. Internal capture is 10-bit, which gives editors meaningful room to push color and exposure in post. The 4-axis tilting touchscreen makes monitoring practical from high and low angles.
Native sensitivity runs from ISO 64 to 25600. Base ISO 64 is the setting to use when file quality matters most, in studio work, landscape, and architectural photography. The upper end of the range covers indoor events, evening sports, and other low light situations where shutter speed has to stay high.
The Nikon Z8 body puts a 45.7MP stacked sensor, 493-point autofocus, 8K internal video, and 5-axis stabilization in a 2.0 pound package that handles stills and video assignments out of the same bag. Samy's Camera has served photographers since 1976, and our staff shoots the gear we sell. Reach out with questions about lenses, cards, or building out a Z system kit.
