Professional Photography Lighting Solutions

Softboxes soften and diffuse light from a flash or continuous light source and are typically made from fabric or plastic materials stretched over a frame. They are attached to the light source via a softbox speed ring or another mounting system.  Softbox lighting is a common form of light-shaping tool for photography and videography.

Photography lighting softboxes come in different styles. Flash softboxes are generally smaller than continuous lighting softboxes and are designed for use in conjunction with strobe lighting units and a flash bracket. Continuous lighting softboxes are designed for continuous light sources, such as LED or fluorescent lights. Continuous lighting softboxes are larger than flash softboxes, and they are also suitable for videography applications. We offer a full range of softbox lighting accessories from top brands, including ARRI, Profoto, and Chimera.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Softboxes Better than Umbrellas for Light Shaping?

Softboxes and umbrellas are both commonly used photography light-shaping tools, but they have different characteristics and use cases. Softboxes are generally better for controlling the direction and quality of light thanks to their diffusion panels that spread light evenly. Umbrellas, on the other hand, are considered better for creating a large, soft source of light that is suitable for full-body shots or larger subjects.

What Size Softbox Should I Get?

Softbox sizes are typically chosen to match the size of your subject. For example, if you are shooting headshots, you would look for an 18-24 inch softbox. If you are shooting full-body images, you want a 48-inch or larger softbox to make sure your subject is fully and properly lit.
