In case you've never been, San Diego is a gorgeous coastal city with burgeoning Downtown and Arts communities. Thanks to the California sunshine, San Diego looks like this practically year-round: [caption id="attachment_5687" align="aligncenter" width="750"] Credit: MontyLuv[/caption] However, in late July, the city is taken over by a five-day event that is the most highly anticipated pop culture gathering in the world. From Wednesday to mid-day Sunday, areas surrounding the San Diego Convention Center (namely the Gaslamp District) look more like this: [caption id="attachment_5689" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Literally, a sea of people | Source: https://bit.ly/2uyMEAY[/caption] And, in case you're wondering if the crowds let up once inside the Convention Center: [caption id="attachment_5690" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] ...it doesn't. | Source: https://bit.ly/2uItnwa[/caption] As if navigating one's way around all this wasn't already a task, photographers and videographers in attendance have to do some serious planning to make sure they are not carrying around a bunch of unnecessary gear. One doesn't want to weigh themselves down with camera bodies and lenses that will never see the light of day. Furthermore, more gear means more things to keep up with, putting one at risk of losing something very expensive, or even worse - having your bag stolen. Perish the thought, right? Taking a few hours the night before to put together the ideal convention camera bag is crucial for maintaining a productive workflow while ensuring peace of mind during the Con. With that said, we have a few ideas to get you started. Here are five essentials that you should pack for Comic Con:
A Versatile DSLR
When it comes to cameras, bring a jack of all trades. Interchangeable lenses: check. Shoots photos and video: check. Mic mount: check. In other words, bring a body that can pack a serious multi-tasking punch, like... the Canon 80D Whether raising your game to SLR level photography or having fun with a feature-rich, versatile SLR you can use pretty much anywhere, the Canon EOS 80D Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens is your answer. or the Nikon D500 The Nikon D500 Digital SLR Camera with 16-80mm Lens is ready to go wherever your passion leads you, capturing everything with stunning clarity, speed and resolution. From busy, low-light cityscapes to thrilling wildlife scenes and fast action shots, the D500 is the ideal companion to your wanderlust.
Pack Three Lenses Max
Have the big three in mind: a wide, a standard focal length zoom, and a telephoto lens. With that in mind, a 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm are currently packed.
All the Memory Cards, Extra Batteries, Booster Grip and/or Portable Power Bank
Your batteries will die during your stay. And, you will run out of space on your memory card. These are facts. Stay shooting and in the green by stocking up. Check out our vast selection of memory cards, batteries, and chargers.
A Tripod That Can Be Attached to Your Backpack
Invest in a lightweight and collapsible tripod like the MeFoto travel tripod, which can go from the tabletop to 61.6" extended. [caption id="attachment_5692" align="aligncenter" width="544"] It also converts to a monopod.[/caption]
Lastly, Let's Not Forget about the Bag Itself
Two words: Think Tank. [caption id="attachment_5693" align="aligncenter" width="543"] If the budget allows, level up to a rolling backpack.[/caption] Consider the StreetWalker V2.0.  According to this trusted brand, the backpack features a "padded shoulder strap, and chest connector, and top handle. There's also a telescoping trolley handle and built-in wheels for rolling. When not needed, the trolley handle is hidden from view beneath a zippered panel." Not to mention, your shoulders will thank you later. Have a fun and safe Comic Con 2018.
