Capturing LA Short Film Contest Winners Announced

Samy's Camera joined forces with The Audience Awards to launch the Capturing LA Short Film Contest. Part of the celebrations surrounding the marking of Samy's Camera's 40th anniversary of business in Los Angeles, the contest gave filmmakers the task to produce a film of less than five minutes in length that captured an aspect of what Los Angeles means to them. Entrants to the Capturing LA Short Film Contest competed for the following prizes:

Capturing LA Short Film Contest Audience Awards

1st Place Audience Award: Canon XC10 4K Professional Camcorder 2nd Place Audience Award: $500 Samy’s Camera Gift Card 3rd Place Audience Award: $250 Samy’s Camera Gift Card Finalists were presented in a showcase hosted in the 4k theater at PhotoCon LA 2016 with the winners of both the Jury Selection Awards and Audience Awards being announced shortly thereafter. Surf culture is the focus of This Moment, the 1st Place Jury Selection entry for the Capturing LA Short Film Contest. The filmmaker, Sven D. brings the viewer into the feelings of anticipation, exhilaration and release that come with riding the waves.

2nd Place Jury Selection Award Winner - More Than Words by Andrea Jako Giacomini.

Recipient of the the 2nd Place Jury Selection Award, Andrea Jako Giacomini's short film, More Than Words, allows viewers to see Los Angeles through the eyes of an artistic-minded child.

1st Place Audience Award Winner - What Makes L.A. L.A. by Joseph Aceves

Taking the 1st Place Audience Award for the Capturing LA Short Film Contest, Joseph Aceves's entry, What Makes L.A. L.A., explores the neighborhoods, landmarks and landscapes of Los Angeles. All as part of a mission to discover what makes Los Angeles feel like Los Angeles.

2nd Place Audience Award Winner - Missing You From LA by Shravya Chavva

Missing You From LA by Shravya Chavva, the 2nd Place Audience Award, shares the diversity of emotions connected with falling in love with a new city, such as Los Angeles, and simultaneously missing those you left behind.

3rd Place Audience Award Winner - Imagination by Hector Cortez

Hector Cortez's 3rd Place Audience Award Winner, Imagination, joins two young boys on a treasure hunt fueled by their imaginations. Their hunt leads them to a treasure close to our hearts.
