The Sennheiser MKE 600 is a compact shotgun microphone built for videographers, filmmakers, and content creators who need focused audio capture for dialogue, interviews, and location sound. Its tight supercardioid polar pattern rejects room noise and off-axis sound, making it a dependable choice for video & audio production across digital mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, and handheld recorders.
The MKE 600 delivers professional-grade audio in a compact, lightweight form factor. Weighing just 56 grams, it mounts securely to camera hot shoes and works seamlessly with digital cinema cameras, hybrid cameras, and external recorders. The microphone's rugged aluminum construction withstands the demands of location shoots, travel, and daily production work.
The MKE 600 integrates effortlessly into existing rigs. Pair it with camera accessories like shock mounts and wind protection to handle outdoor recording environments. Mount it on a light stand for boom operation, or attach it directly to your camera for hands-free dialogue recording during interviews and documentary work. Its straightforward design means fewer variables to manage on set, letting you focus on capturing compelling audio and video simultaneously.
The supercardioid polar pattern delivers exceptional off-axis rejection, isolating your talent's voice from ambient room noise, traffic, and unwanted background sound. This directional design works exceptionally well in noisy environments where you cannot control sound sources. The tight pickup pattern also minimizes the microphone's sensitivity to camera handling noise and rig vibrations.
Professional videographers on location shoots rely on shotgun microphones for documentary work, corporate video, and narrative film. Podcasters and spoken-word creators use them for controlled audio capture in home studios and field settings. Content creators producing YouTube vlogs, TikTok videos, and social media content benefit from the MKE 600's compact size and battery efficiency. Journalists covering news events and interviews need portable, dependable audio equipment that travels well and performs consistently.
Hobbyist filmmakers and video enthusiasts working on short films, music videos, and creative projects choose shotgun microphones to elevate their production value. Training instructors and educators creating instructional videos appreciate the focused capture and reduced background noise. Broadcast and streaming professionals use them for live events, webinars, and remote recording setups.
A shotgun microphone uses a supercardioid or hypercardioid polar pattern to capture sound from a narrow pickup area in front of the microphone while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. This makes shotgun mics ideal for dialogue, interviews, narration, and situations where you need to isolate one voice or sound source from surrounding noise. They're essential tools in film, television, documentary, and professional video production.
No. The MKE 600 operates on a single AA battery and does not require phantom power. This makes it compatible with DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and portable recorders that may not provide phantom power. Battery life is approximately 50 hours of continuous operation.
The package includes a 3.5mm TRS cable for connecting to your camera or recorder. You'll also receive a windscreen foam that reduces wind noise during outdoor recording. Most users pair the MKE 600 with aftermarket shock mounts and additional wind protection accessories available separately to expand its capabilities in challenging environments.
Yes. The MKE 600's lightweight design and standard mounting hardware make it suitable for boom pole operation. Mount it in a shock mount attached to your boom pole, and operate it with an XLR-to-3.5mm adapter connected to your recorder. This setup is popular for documentary and interview work where an operator controls mic position and angle from off-screen.
The supercardioid pattern provides strong off-axis rejection, which helps reduce unwanted background noise like traffic, wind, and crowd sound. For best results outdoors, use a windscreen foam (included) and consider adding a professional blimp-style wind protection system for extremely windy conditions. Proper mic placement close to your sound source is more important than any single microphone spec.
Shotgun microphones are directional and mounted away from talent, capturing focused sound from a distance. They excel at isolating dialogue and controlling background noise. Lavalier microphones are small, clipped directly to talent's clothing, and capture close-up voice with minimal room reflections. Shotgun mics work best for film and video production. Lavalier mics work best for hands-free operation during interviews, presentations, and active movement.
The Sennheiser MKE 600 is a reliable foundation for professional dialogue recording and location sound. Whether you're building your first video kit, expanding an existing production setup, or looking for a backup microphone for critical shoots, this compact shotgun delivers focused audio capture in a dependable, lightweight design.
