Samy’s Camera Outreach had the pleasure of photographing a Potluck & Meditation event for The Foundation for Living Beauty.

The Pasadena-based non-profit was founded in 2005 with the goal of providing supportive services to women cancer patients, called “Living Beauties.” Serving more than 450 women, The Foundation provides Wellness Retreats, Sisterhood Support Events, and Integrative Therapy Workshops to uplift, educate and empower women along their cancer journey. Besides nutrition and health classes, the three-day Wellness Retreats feature activities such as yoga, guided meditation, art therapy, swimming, and nature walks. Sisterhood Support events (concerts, holidays, makeover days) celebrate milestones and help the Living Beauties cement their support team for a collective fight against cancer. The third arm of the charity, Integrative Therapy Workshops, provide education on healing modalities such as Ayurveda, music therapy, skincare, mindfulness, and Feldenkrais.

Samy’s Camera Outreach photographed the Living Beauties at an empowering mediation workshop led by somatic pain therapist, author, and TEDx presenter Tarnie Fulloon. Tarnie led the women through a moving meditation, some fluid stretching, then a movement exercise best described as ‘free dance.’ Tears blurred my camera viewfinder as serene and blissful smiles graced the women’s faces, their stress and pain fading away. The session concluded with the women hugging each other in turn. What a beautiful, powerful experience to behold.
