MILES F. from New York, NY on February 06, 2013:
I have owned top-of-the-line in-ear phones from Shure, Westone, Ultimate Ears, Klipsch. These compare favorably with them all -- at a fraction of the cost.
I was very curious about MonsterCable's first entry into the audiophile market -- their Turbine Gold's. Then they brought out the Turbine Copper's, and the Miles Davis Tribute's. All are superb earphones that make a good seal against outside noise and to receive the clearest sound. They are all bright, clear, clean, and warm, with a nice sonic soundstage.
The Trumpet's are heir to the original Tribute's, with their distinctive look and newly-designed housing which brings the 'speaker' closer to the eardrum. Like, all the top Monster phones, they come in a beautiful presentation box with plenty of ear tips. I found only one of the ten which gave me a great seal, but that one is perfect.
The only minus is that the 'microphonics' (transmission of sound of cables against clothing) are rather severe when worn normally, with cables hanging down from the ears. But, when I wore the cable over the ears instead, the problem was solved. I also find that this postion makes in-ear phones much more stable and less prone to being inadvertantly pulled out of the ear.
I took away one star for durability, though I am not sure of that rating. But the unusual flat cable, while well protected at the 'plug' end, seems much less protected at the earphone end. Only time will tell if, as I suspect and hope, all is well. I also took off a star for fit due to the fact that only one pair of tips fit perfectly, but that it not so unusual, either. In-ear fit is a highly personal thing, and crucial to the best transmission of sound, as well as sealing out environmental noise.
I love these so much, I ordered a second pair. A great value.
