The Hasselblad H5X Medium Format Digital SLR Camera Body with Grip and HV 90x-II Viewfinder is available as an upgrade for H1, H2, H2F and H4X cameras. Like its predecessors it is a high-performance medium format camera for professional and advanced users with an image format of 56 x 41.5mm. Versatility comes to the fore again from Hasselblad by offering a body that uses H5 technology, with all its advantages, together with the opportunity of exploiting HCD 24mm, HCD 28mm and the HCD 35-90mm lenses with film magazines and 3rd party digital backs. Although aimed primarily at current H1, H2, H2F and H4X users wishing to upgrade to H5 capabilities, the H5X can naturally act as a backup for H5D users too. For 3rd party digital backs, the H5X offers the same functionality as the H4X.

The H5X incorporates H5 technology and versatility including optimized True Focus AF and improved grip design. It is compatible with H-system lenses, CF/CFH backs, numerous third party digital backs and four distinct viewfinders. Included in this kit is the HV 90x-II viewfinder which is an eye-level viewfinder providing a 2.7x image magnification and diopter adjustment from -4 to +2.5D. It has a built-in flash with Guide Number 12 at ISO 100 and an integrated hot shoe mount. It is optimized for film and the 40.2 x 53.7mm format. The H5X is compatible with all Hasselblad HC and HCD lenses and all C-type lenses from the V system when using an optional CF lens adapter. A dot-matrix LCD monitor is provided on the grip to view camera setting information. An Acute Matte type D focusing screen is supplied and the camera also works with numerous optional focusing screens. Eight profile settings enable fast and accurate one-button switching to custom settings and the H5X supports four programmable buttons that can be set to customize up to 35 functions.

  • True Focus & Absolute Position Lock (APL): True Focus enables fast and accurate focusing throughout the image field. The Absolute Position Lock (APL) processor forms the foundation of Hasselblad's True Focus feature using modern yaw rate sensor technology to measure angular velocity. The APL processor accurately logs camera movement during any re-composing, then uses these exact measurements to calculate the necessary focus adjustment and programs the lens's focus motor so it can compensate. The APL processor computes the positional algorithms and carries out the required focus corrections at such a rapid speed that no shutter lag occurs.
  • Lens Compatibility: The H5X is compatible with the highly renowned HC/HCD lens line, all with central lens shutters. The built-in central lens shutter allows flash to be used at all shutter speeds up to 1/800th second. It also improves image quality by reducing camera vibration. The CF adapter allows the use of classic CF-lenses from the Hasselblad V-camera and the HTS 1.5 tilt/shift adapter delivers an easy to use, portable tilt/ shift solution for 6 HC/HCD lenses ranging from 24mm to 100mm.
  • Viewfinder Compatibility: Included in this kit is the HV 90x-II viewfinder which is an eye-level viewfinder providing a 2.7x image magnification and diopter adjustment from -4 to +2.5D. It has a built-in flash with Guide Number 12 at ISO 100 and an integrated hot shoe mount. It is optimized for film and the 40.2 x 53.7mm format. The H5X is also compatible with the HV 90x, HVD 90x and the HVM viewfinders. The HV 90x and HVD 90x are 90º eye-level finders with built-in flash units and hot shoe mounts. The HVM is a waist-level viewfinder. The HVD 90x is optimized for the 36 x 48mm format.
  • Advanced Exposure Control: The exposure can be controlled either by sophisticated exposure automation or with full manual control. Metering options (with the HV 90x-II and HVD 90x) include Spot, Center Spot and Center Weighted. Exposure lock is supported with a separate button on the camera. Exposure modes are Manual, Aperture priority, Shutter speed priority, Programmed and Programmed Variable.
  • Flash Metering System: The built-in flash metering system is designed to be used when working with manually controlled flashes, such as studio flashes.
  • Built-in Flash and Flash Adapter: Three compatible viewfinders (HV 90x, HV 90x-II, HVD 90x) feature a compact flash. Though primarily intended to be used as fill flash it can also be used as main flash in some cases. The flash has a metric guide number of 12, but when used as fill flash with -2 stops adjustment it is equal to guide number 24. With the SCA 3902 flash adapter, any flash compatible with the SCA3002 system defined by Metz can be used. This means that you can choose from small and compact flashes for extremely portable use as well as larger and more powerful flashes when so required.
  • Dot-Matrix LCDs: The grip LCD and the viewfinder LCD is of dot-matrix type. This means that the camera is able to present clear and easy-to-understand information and messages instead of fixed text and symbols.
  • Interchangeable Film Magazines: The film magazines for the H5X camera feature inserts that can handle both 120 and 220 film. If you use bar-coded film (defined by FUJIFILM) the setting of both film type and ISO value is automatic. Film wind-on and wind-off is also automatic with all films.
  • Enhanced Programmability: The H5X includes 35 functions that can be customized by the user. It features 4 buttons that can be programmed as short cuts to the camera's most used functions.
  • 8 Profile Settings: A profile stores all the settings of the camera and can be recalled with one button. This allows for quick switching to a given mode of photography, it eases set-up time, and perhaps most important, it prevents mistakes from happening. The H5X has 8 different profiles in the camera and the function to create and manage profiles directly in Phocus.
  • High Power AF Illumination: A stronger AF Illumination light enables more accurate auto focus when shooting in dim light.
  • Compatibility: The H5X is compatible with the following lenses, backs and accessories: HM-16-32 Film Magazines,Hmi-100 Instant Film Back, H5D Sensor Unit,  HC Lenses, HCD Lenses (Lower edge image quality & vignetting can occur on sensors larger than 36×48mm), Converter H1.7x, Extension Tubes HE, HTS 1.5x Adapter, GIL (GPS Receiver) with an H5D sensor unit, HV 90x Viewfinder, HV 90x-II Viewfinder
