The big advantage of Lithium AA batteries is not economic. It is in the use/shelf life that they excel. Shelf: OK, regular AA's cost less, and Nickel Metal can be recharged. But those features will not help you if you pick up your flashlight and the batteries are dead. (There are many AA flashlights on the market) Fully charged NiMH have a shelf life of only 10 or 12 weeks, and Alkaline cells maybe 3 years. Lithiums can last as long as 10 years on the shelf, so if you buy them today and the disaster happens 5 years later, your batteries are still ready to go. Use: They last several times as long as alkaline batteries in nearly all applications, so you have a much better chance of not needing to change them in the middle of shooting photos, powering your flashlight, etc.
