Web Pricing - Why are the prices on this web site different from those in your stores?
Our stores are staffed with a wide variety of product specialists and support staff, each of whom make an effort to be responsive and pleasant to deal with. We're also able to provide a customer with any item from our inventory to inspect and test. The cost of this customer service is an increased overhead for our in-store prices, to pay for the store space, the training of our employees, and other considerations not present online. We're happy to offer reduced prices online and hope that you will be satisfied with your purchase no matter where you decide to buy.
The Hollywood 40" Double Riser C Stand with Sliding Leg includes Grip Head, Arm and has a Black Finish. Century Stands or "C" stands are an important component in the image maker's arsenal of tools. This is a black Matthews Century C Stand Grip Head Kit. It consists of a Double Riser Sliding Leg C Stand with a Grip Head and 40" Arm. The stand rises to a maximum height of 10.5' (3.2 m).
The term "Century Stand" goes back to the early days of motion picture production. Before the introduction of artificial lighting, the stages would revolve to allow for continuous overhead lighting from the sun. Large reflectors would be positioned to bounce back or kick the overhead light up onto the stage and illuminate the set and actors. These reflectors were made in many sizes, but it seems the most popular was the 100 inch or "Century" sized reflector.
The unique staggered leg design of a C Stand allows it to be nested and placed extremely close to one another on a set. The top leg of the stand is independently adjustable.
Sliding independent top leg adjustment for leveling on uneven terrain
Griphead and arm allow mounting and placement of gobos, small reflectors and small light fixtures
