With approximately 19.5 times the surface area of conventional camcorders, the 16.1MP Exmor^® APS-C HD CMOS sensor makes getting cinematic video with a shallow depth of field video a breeze.

The NEX-VG30 was built with an all new powered zoom seesaw lever for variable and constant speed electronic zooming.  The easily accessible lever supports 2x digital zoom that can be used with both variable and fixed focal length lenses.

There’s never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder.  For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem.  It begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth.  OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum.  You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail.

High quality video requires high quality audio. The Quad Capsule Spatial Array stereo microphone contains four precision placed microphone capsules that are perfectly angled at 45 degrees to provide exceptional front-side directivity and stereo separation.

Dedicated mic and headphone inputs allow for attachment of external microphones (like shotgun microphone ECM-CG50 for pin point sound recording) and headphones to monitor sound.

Using the LA-EA2 adaptor with translucent mirror technology and a built-in AF motor (sold separately), you can attach the full selection of α A- and E-mount system lenses, which includes all current models, dozens of Minolta A-mount lenses, and an installed base of millions of lenses worldwide. Operational restrictions apply.⁵  Videographers may also use the LA-EA1 mount adaptor for standard A-mount lens compatibility.

Aperture priority, shutter speed priority or manual exposure control can all be accessed while shooting video via a control dial or easy-access buttons.  With extensive manual control of Iris, you will be able to adapt to almost any lighting condition to get the best shot.

For extra control over image expression, CinemaTone technology is used to deepen the color and recreate film-like color tones. Combined with 24p recording, you’ll have some of the tools you need to fulfill your need for cinematic expression.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode³ built-in supplied lens compensates for greater degrees of camera shake to deliver stunningly smooth video.

The NEX-VG30 provides advanced capture and control features that are often considered the domain of  professional cameras including expanded focus for precise manual focus control, zebra and peaking for precision focus and exposure adjustments.

Unlike conventional camcorders, the NEX-VG30 also features a newly developed Multi-Interface Shoe that dramatically expands compatibility with Handycam accessories, thus raising the potential for photo/movie shooting. Attach an optional XLR adapter to the Multi-Interface shoe to elevate audio quality.

Picture Effects adds a new level of expression to photos and video, making ordinary images and scenes come to life by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes. Twenty five AF points cover a very wide area of the scene, for accurate focusing even when the subject is far from the center of the frame^.7 

Whether you’re shooting video or still images the attached lens will auto focus quietly and quickly, however if you want to utilize MF, this simple switch will put you in the driver’s seat.

Anti-Dust Technology helps keep the CMOS sensor clean, resulting in consistently clear pictures. First a static-free coating on the sensor's low-pass filter helps repel dust. Then vibration automatically dislodges dust from the sensor, especially when you're changing lenses in-between video sessions. 

For convenient storage and sharing of your images and videos, the media card slot accepts Memory Stick Duo / Memory Stick PRO Duo / Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media and SD/SDHC/SDXC media (all sold separately).
