HDSLR Still and Video Merge on Universal Studio’s Back Lot!
Our industry has changed with the introduction of HD Video in a still camera platform. Photographers with HD Video experience will open up whole new opportunities and revenue streams. Clients are expecting Photographers that can shoot Video and Stills on the same set up. Whether its Advertising, Stock, Fusion pieces for Weddings, or Photo Journalism, you need to understand how to shoot HD Video. Jay P. Morgan will take us to the back lot at Universal Studios and lead us through the basic equipment and camera settings needed to successfully shoot Video and stills on a DSLR camera.  Jay P.'s extensive background in both Commercials and Print make him uniquely qualified to understand how these two worlds can work together.  He will demonstrate how to light for both stills and video using strobes and hot lights.  Students will have the opportunity to set up lighting and photograph models with Jay P.’s guidance.  Also, Reps from Canon, and Photoflex will be there with gear that you can use and experiment with as you shoot.

Goals for the class:
1. Basic understanding of HD Video Lighting and camera functions.
2. Deeper understanding of Lighting for strobe and Hot Lights.
3. Hands on experience and images that they made on the back lot.

Jay P. Morgan has been a working Advertising Photographer and Director of commercials in the Los Angeles area for more than two decades, all the while developing and impressive list of clients from NBC, CBS Records, and Showtime to Warner Bros., Orion and Columbia Pictures.  Producing flawlessly executed shots for more than 20 years, both elaborate and fantastical, Jay P’s experience with elaborate set design and extensive lighting, combined with the extraordinary imagination and unique ability to convey basic techniques in an entertaining and digestible manner, are key to the success of his illustrative work.

His style is self-described as “a cross between Norman Rockwell and (Gary Larson’s) ‘The Far Side’”.  However you label it, the originality of Jay P’s imagery and film work lies in his ability to turn normal and familiar situations into something bizarre and humorous.  When you mix Jay P’s unusual perspective, his desire to make people laugh, and his ability to create elaborate visuals that take viewers on a wild ride through his imagination…you definitely get his distinctive point of view!
