This beginners workshop will show you just the things you need to know to start feeling confident in your Photoshop skills. Realizing that Photoshop is a huge program with a lot of tools, filters, adjustments, palettes, and menu items etc… We will cut through the complexity and just shows you exactly what you need to know to hit the ground running in Photoshop. When you're done with this workshop you'll realize you didn't learn every little thing there is to know in Photoshop. But you will have a solid grasp of the most important features and you will be at the next level in no time.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers is a hands-on workshop. Each student using a MacPro Dual-Core Intel with 23" Cinema Display equipped with an Intuos graphics tablet.
• We will cover the basic concept of color management. Starting with the big question: "How do I make my prints match the image on my monitor?" This introduction will help you understand the ways in which Adobe Photoshop interprets and manages color.
• Learn timesaving file and handling with Adobe Bridge, the next-generation File Browser, where you can process multiple camera raw images at once, resize, rate, and label thumbnails; quickly review images in Slideshow mode, search metadata and print proof sheets as PDFs directly from Adobe Bridge.
• See the power of RAW. How you can process all digital Camera Raw files, enjoy automatic adjustments of exposure, shadows, lens correction and brightness / contrast; and much, much more.
• Then the fun begins! Image manipulation in Photoshop CS5. We will cover image resolution – pixels versus vectors, and altering the image size. How should you save your file and why? (Saving Images and File Formats TIFF,PSD,JPEG etc…)
Introduction to layers and why use them.
Color corrections using adjustment layers.
Creating selections, using the new quick selection with Refine Edge.
Retouching Tools, Spot Healing Brush content-aware, Healing Brush, Patch tool as well as montage techniques.
Cropping and Straightening
Sharpening
Black & White conversion from color.
• And finally making great prints. We will cover printing techniques for your portfolio or for fine art, using specific profiles for specific papers. In class we will be using the Epson 2400 printer.
Natasha Calzatti is a photographer who has successfully made the transition to digital imaging. After receiving her BFA in photography from Otis Parsons School of Design, she soon found herself at the leading edge of digital imaging. Her award-winning photography has appeared in THE NEW YORK TIMES, NEWSWEEK, PEOPLE and VIBE as well as syndicated internationally. Her clients include: FARM ADVERTISING, STARTER APPAREL, GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA and CLIVE WILKINSON ARCHITECTS. Additionally, her work has appeared in many group shows and is represented in private collections. Refunds & Cancellations
Enrollment is limited, therefore your commitment is important to us. If you must withdraw from a workshop, we provide this refund policy: A $25 administrative fee will be charged on all cancellations. If you cancel 24-72 hours prior to the start of the workshop, we will retain 50% of the total workshop fee, unless we are able to fill your spot. If you cancel 24 hours or less prior to the start date of the workshop, we will retain 100% of the workshop fee unless we are able to fill your spot. No refunds are given once the workshop begins.
If you miss 1 - 2 classes of a workshop, you may sit in on those missed classes during the next session as long as space permits.
On occasion we may cancel a class because of low enrollment and/or unforeseen professional conflict on the part of the instructor. Should this be the case, al monies will be refunded in full. We do not take responsibility for non-refundable airline tickets, so please buy a refundable ticket if you are coming from outside of Los Angeles.
