When you desire to remove the mounting ball from your cold shoe, after loosening the clamping nut completely, you may find this new design holds so well that you have trouble removing the mount. You will need to lift the flange up so that it does not grab the cold shoe, or turn the housing upside down and let gravity release the flange.
